Lithium carbonate is used in pyrotechnics, for production of glass and plastics, electrical insulating porcelain, glass ceramics, as well as in ferrous metallurgy (steel desulfurization), in agriculture as a fertilizer and supplementary feed. In addition, it is used in psychiatry as a mood stabilizer. Lithium carbonate has the widest range of use in metallurgy (steel desulfation). A large consumer of lithium carbonate is glass industry. Lithium oxide considerably increases chemical resistance of glass, when used with sodium oxide.
